Messy spreadsheets share the same problems: merged cells, blank rows between records, totals typed among the data, dates written in different ways and numbers stored as text, so they refuse to add up. Colour is another trap. A red row may mean “unpaid” to you, but formulas cannot count colours and a new colleague cannot guess the meaning. A Status column solves both.
We build in two parts: a data tab, where each row is one sale, expense or stock movement, and a summary tab whose formulas read from it. We start by asking what you want to see, because that decides the layout. If your figures are still on paper, data entry can put them into the sheet first.
