01Overview

Start with a question narrow enough to answer

Compare two requests. “Tell me about the poultry business” could fill a library. “What costs and risks do published sources mention for a small poultry farm in Nigeria, and who published them?” can be answered, checked and used. A good question names the subject, the place or group, and the purpose, and we help you sharpen yours before we start.

We answer from credible, traceable sources such as official publications, regulator pages, research institutions, company reports and reputable news outlets. Social posts and forums can point us to a lead, but we do not treat them as proof. When two sources disagree, we show both. When no reliable answer exists, we say so, because a known gap is safer than a confident answer nobody can support.

02What is included

What desk research and fact-finding includes

  1. 01

    Answers to specific questions

A short, sourced answer to a clear question, with the main points first, the evidence behind them and a note on any gaps.

  2. 02

    Claim and fact checking

We trace claims in an article, speech or slide deck to their origin and mark each supported, partly supported, unsupported or unclear.

  3. 03

    Summaries of long material

Reports, policy papers and long articles reduced to plain language, with pointers back to the sections they came from.

  4. 04

    Background briefings

A readable briefing on a topic for someone new to it, such as a speaker, writer or board member.

  5. 05

    Source comparison

Where sources disagree, a side-by-side note on who says what, when, and why the answers may differ.

  6. 06

    Reference list

Every source listed in a consistent style, with enough detail to find it again. Tell us the style you need.

03How it works

How we work with you

  1. Send your question

Say what you want to know, why you need it and by when. We help you sharpen the wording.

  2. We agree the scope

We confirm what will be covered, which kinds of sources to use and what the finished answer should look like.

  3. We find and check sources

We find the original source behind each point, check its date and author and set aside what we cannot trace.

  4. You receive answer and references

You get a clear answer, the reference list and a note on any limits, and can ask follow-up questions.

FAQ

Desk Research & Fact-Finding: your questions answered

Still have a question? Message us on WhatsApp and we will answer it.

01How do I write a good research question?

Make it specific and tied to a use. “Why do small shops close?” is vague, while “What reasons do published studies give for small retail closures in Nigeria?” can be answered and checked.

02Can you check whether a WhatsApp message or news story is true?

We trace the claim to its origin, compare it with credible sources and tell you whether it looks supported, partly supported, unsupported or unclear. Some claims cannot be settled from public information, and we will say so.

03What counts as a credible source?

One where you can see who published it, when and how they know. Official publications, regulators, research institutions and established news outlets usually qualify. Anonymous posts and unsigned blogs do not, though they can suggest leads.

04Can you summarise a long report for me?

Yes. Send the document or a link and tell us who the summary is for. We set out the main points in plain language and show which sections they came from, so you can check the original.

05How much does desk research cost?

It depends on the size of the question, the amount of reading and the format you want. Send the question on WhatsApp and we will quote clearly before we begin. For coursework, see academic research support.
