01Overview

Captions or subtitles: what is the difference?

Captions show the words that are spoken, in the same language, so people can follow without sound. Subtitles usually translate the speech into another language. Our focus is English captions. If you need Igbo, Pidgin or another language, tell us and we will confirm whether we can help before you commit to anything.

Accuracy is where captions succeed or fail. Automatic captions often misspell Nigerian names, places, church and company terms, and Pidgin phrases, so each line has to be checked against what was actually said. We ask you to confirm names and key terms, then style the text for easy reading: a clear font, strong contrast, short lines and breaks at natural pauses.

02What is included

What is included in our captions and subtitles

  1. 01

    English captions

Spoken words typed out and timed to the speech, with unclear lines flagged to you instead of guessed.

  2. 02

    Readable styling

A clear font, good contrast and sensible line breaks, placed clear of platform buttons and logos.

  3. 03

    Name and term checks

People, places, brands and technical or religious terms checked against the spellings you give us.

  4. 04

    Captions built into the video

Text added to the picture itself, so it shows on every platform and for every viewer.

  5. 05

    A separate caption file

If your platform lets viewers switch captions on and off, tell us and we will confirm which file we can supply.

  6. 06

    Other languages on request

Igbo, Pidgin or another language: tell us what you need and we will confirm what we can do before you decide.

03How it works

How we work with you

  1. Send the video

Share the finished video, or the footage and your edit, by cloud link. Add a script if you have one.

  2. Confirm names and terms

Send the spelling of names, places, brands and special terms so we can match them in the captions.

  3. We caption and style the text

We write and time the captions, then style them for easy reading on a phone screen.

  4. You review and receive the video

Check the draft for wrong words. We correct them and send the final video with the captions.

Video captions in Awka and Anambra State

Videos made in Awka and across Anambra State may include Igbo phrases, local names and town names such as Amawbia, Nibo or Nnewi, and automatic tools tend to misspell them. We caption the English and check names with you. If a part is in Igbo, tell us and we will confirm what we can do.

FAQ

Video Captions & Subtitles: your questions answered

Still have a question? Message us on WhatsApp and we will answer it.

01Should I build captions into my video or upload a separate file?

Captions built into the picture look the same wherever the video plays, but viewers cannot switch them off. A separate file lets viewers turn captions on or off, though how they look depends on the platform. Tell us what you need and we will confirm.

02Can you caption a video that is partly in Igbo or Pidgin?

Tell us which parts are in which language and send the video. We will confirm what we can do for each language before any work begins, instead of promising something we cannot do properly.

03Are auto-generated captions good enough?

They are a starting point. They often misspell names and mishear accents or background noise, and a wrong word can change the meaning. We check each caption against the audio and your list of names.

04What makes captions easy to read on a phone?

Short lines, a clear font, good contrast with the picture and a position clear of buttons and descriptions. Each caption should stay on screen long enough to read, and we time them that way.

05Can you add captions to a video someone else edited?

Yes. Send the finished video, and the unedited footage too if you have it, so later changes are easier to make. We add the captions on top and send the result for your review.
