CV Writing for NYSC Corps Members in Awka & Nigeria

Your service year is more than a certificate at the end. The place you were posted to, the work you did there and your community project are experience, and your CV should say so.

What you can get

  1. Your NYSC service written as experience
  2. PPA tasks in clear wording
  3. CDS and community project entries
  4. Wording for applying while serving
  5. An update when your service ends

01Overview

Your service year is real experience, if the CV says what you did

Many corps members describe service in one line: “Served at a secondary school.” The employer learns where you were, not what you did. Your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) is a workplace. Whether you taught, supported a clinic, handled bank customers or worked with an NGO, you can describe the real tasks.

Community Development Service (CDS) belongs on the CV too. If you led a CDS group, ran a sensitisation campaign or took part in skills and entrepreneurship training, those entries show initiative and teamwork. We write only what you tell us you did, and ask questions until the real work is clear.

NYSC sets its own rules, and they can change. Check the current position with NYSC officials, because you remain responsible for following them. We write only the facts you give us. For the basics of a first CV, see our graduate CV page.

    PPA tasks in plain wording

Everyday work such as teaching, record keeping or customer handling, written as specific examples.

  6. 06

    Profile line for job hunting

03How it works

How we work with you

  1. Tell us about your service

Send your state, PPA, department, role and tasks. Add your CDS group, projects and any training you took.

  2. We shape your service entry

We turn your notes into a clear experience entry and decide where it sits for the jobs you want.

  3. You confirm the facts

Check each date, title and task. Anything not yet true, such as a certificate you have not received, stays out.

  4. Update when you finish

FAQ

CV for NYSC Corps Members: your questions answered

Still have a question? Message us on WhatsApp and we will answer it.

01Can I put NYSC on my CV as work experience?

Yes. Your service year is real, structured experience. List it like a job: state, PPA, role, dates and tasks, marked as ongoing while you serve. Name the work, not just “NYSC”.

02What should I write for my PPA duties?

Describe tasks, not just the title. If you teach, name the subjects and classes. In an office, mention the records, reports or customers you handle. A line such as “assisted the manager” says little alone.

03Can I apply for jobs before I get my discharge certificate?

NYSC and each employer set their own rules, and these can change, so check both. On your CV, show service as ongoing until complete, and list the certificate only after you hold it.

04My PPA is very ordinary. Is there anything to write?

Most PPAs involve real tasks: dealing with people, records, deadlines and rules. Describe a normal working day in your own words and we ask follow-up questions until the work is clear.

05Do I need a new CV after I pass out?

Usually the same CV is updated: the service entry becomes completed and your latest duties are added. Send us the new details and we will confirm what to change.
